I am proud to support Molly Olly’s Wishes as my Charity of the Year 2017.
I recently attended the Live24Seven Ladies Day at Dallas Burston Polo Ground in Southam in support of two very worthwhile charities – Molly Olly’s Wishes and the Princes Trust.
Apart from the day always being a fabulous one hosted by Katie McPhilimey, Managing Editor of Live24Seven– this year was particularly inspiring. It didn’t take long for me to get talking to some of the team behind Molly Olly’s Wishes, including the co-founder and Molly’s mum, Rachel Ollerenshaw.
Within moments I knew that this was a charity that I wanted to support.
Molly Olly’s Wishes is a local Warwick based charity founded in 2011 by Rachel and Tim Ollerenshaw. Their daughter Molly was diagnosed aged 3 with a Wilms tumour (a rare type of kidney cancer) and despite a long and brave 5 year fight, died in 2011.
During Molly’s short life – she made an impact far beyond her years. It was HER wish that other children should be helped, and so Molly Olly’s Wishes was born.
Money raised by the charity supports children aged 0-18, and their families who need additional help to ease the burdens of living with a terminal or life threatening illness. They do this in several ways through granting individual wishes to children. This may be in the form of equipment, alternative therapy treatment or a special occasion – it may be a visit to a theme park or a trolley dash around a toy store….
Molly Olly’s Wishes have also developed a therapeutic toy lion called Olly the Brave, and a book, ‘Olly the Brave and The Wigglys’. The pack is given to children needing a central or Hickman line, enabling medication or nutritional support to be administered and bloods to be taken without the repeated use of needles. Olly has his own line and also has a detachable mane that helps to explain and normalise the hair-loss that comes with many types of chemotherapy.
In support of celebrating Molly’s life and her ongoing legacy, a percentage of each of the celebration of life ceremonies conducted by Just Celebrations will be donated to the charity.
